The Best Vegan Food in Hampshire

Some of the restaurants recommended in this guide to the best vegan food in Hampshire myself or Nicole may have previously worked with – there is no paid advertorial in this post, however some of the linked blog posts may be press reviews.

January has brought a new year with it, along with Veganuary – a vegan movement that has been gaining momentum each year! Each week more & more restaurants, cafes and small businesses across the county add vegan food to their offerings – it’s fantastic to see places become more inclusive to all diets. I personally am not vegan, and likely won’t ever be – however I do try to vary what I eat both at home and when out & about! As I’m not an expert in this field, I asked my friend Nicole to help with this Hampshire Food Guide and share her favourite vegan food spots across Hampshire. As with my other Hampshire Food Guides, I will continue to update this post whenever myself (or Nicole!) have any new vegan food recommendations – this is a post for life, not just Veganuary!

As you would expect, all of the restaurants featured in this guide have varying opening hours & delivery options during the current COVID situation – however we have tried to include places that we know are offering some sort of takeaway/delivery service so that you can enjoy excellent vegan food at home!

So, without further ado – let us show you the best vegan food in Hampshire!

Offbeet also have an online deli shop for all of your at-home vegan needs.

Cafe Thrive, Southampton

Now there isn’t any photo evidence from Cafe Thrive (which in itself means the food is good, right?) but Nicole regularly visits their spot in Southampton for vegan foodie treats. Situated close to the busy Southampton High Street, Cafe Thrive is a great lunch destination if you’re in the city for the day.

Mango Thai, Southampton

Both myself and Nicole are big fans of the authentic food at Mango Thai, however I haven’t sampled any of their vegan options so Nicole is the expert here! Mango Thai have several locations across Southampton, currently offering delivery & collection options from their Portswood & Above Bar sites. Nicole is a fan of the mango corn cakes and the tofu golden curry – both pictured below!

Dumpling Dumpling, Isle of Wight

If you’ve been around these parts for a while, you’ll already know that I’m a big fan of Dumpling Dumpling – and the good news is, they have plenty of fantastic vegan flavours which change regularly! At the moment Dumpling Dumpling are offering mainland deliveries of frozen dumplings on selected dates, or if you’re a resident on the Isle of Wight they do hot & cold dumpling deliveries at the weekends.

Both myself & Nicole are fans of the Hoisin Not Duck dumpling, and some of their previous vegan flavours (which are all delicious) have included pesto mac & cheese, Shitake teriyaki, Buffalo cauliflower & plenty more!

Plenty to choose from, all packed with flavour!

Breeno’s Kitchen, Portsmouth

Breeno’s Kitchen offers Indo/Pak fusion flavours that you’re going to love. Currently based at Outside-In Food Court with food available for collection or delivery, Breeno has an ever changing menu of street food classics. Her vegan options are delicious and I’d recommend ordering from Breeno’s for something a little different!

Arepa2Go, Portsmouth

Arepa2Go is one of my favourite food spots in Hampshire, and I’ve never tried anything else like it! Serving Venezuelan street food you won’t have seen before, ranging from stuffed arepas to tostadas and everything in between. There are plenty of vegan options on the menu, all of which are guaranteed to be delicious. Rawberry, Winchester

Rawberry is a very popular vegan friendly cafe in Winchester, and hands-down one of my favourite places to visit whenever I’m in the city. It’s a vibrant, airy, friendly spot with great coffee, fresh juices, vegan food and deli items to go. There’s something for everyone here, so the next time you’re in Winchester make sure you swing by for a bite to eat!

Bangkok Bistro, Winchester

If you’re after some really excellent, authentic Thai food – Bangkok Bistro is a great choice. Offering collection or delivery to Winchester residents, their menu has an extensive selection of vegan options – pictured here is the stir fried aubergine (which was very, very good) and the mango sticky rice. This was some of the best food we had in 2020, so I would absolutely recommend giving Bangkok Bistro a go!

Overdraft Craft Ale Bar, Winchester & Southampton

Crispy avocado atop a taco. Need I say more? Overdraft is a very cool craft ale & food spot, with locations in both Winchester and Southampton. They have plenty of delicious vegan options to choose from, ranging from tacos to other Mexican favourites. They have OD at home taco kits available too, for local hungry people – head over to their website to download the app for more information!

Noodle 8, Southampton

Noodle 8 offers Asian street food favourites with a healthier approach to their cooking compared to the average Asian takeaway offerings. They have plenty of vegan options available, and a lot of their dishes can be customised to include tofu or tempeh instead of meat.

Piecaramba, Southampton & Winchester

With popular locations in Southampton & Winchester, Piecaramba have brought a refreshingly different take on the classic pie & mash. They have a huge selection of inventive flavours available, with at least 4 vegan pies to choose from alongside vegan mash (which Nicole can vouch for!). They are currently offering collection of frozen pies for you to enjoy at home – head over to their website for all the details!

The Black Phoenix Pub, Southampton

Sunday roasts, delivered – one of the best things to have come out of Lockdown, and I 100% agree with Nicole on this one! Pictured here is the vegan seitan roast with all of the trimmings, including a vegan Yorkshire pudding – Nicole has had several deliveries from The Black Phoenix Pub and highly rates their roasts.

The Black Phoenix Pub is located in Southampton (SO15 2DX) and offers delivery via UberEats. They have a rotating menu with loads of vegan options, with food available from 5pm to 10pm daily. All of the vegan options on their current delivery menu look incredible – head over to their Facebook page for their latest information!

Newly launched by owners _ and _, Southsea Donut Co. bake batches of vegan donuts daily from their Portsmouth location.
