Natty’s Jerk Kitchen: Jamaican Street Food Delivered

If there’s one thing I absolutely love, it’s food. Even better when it’s from a local small business, and better still when it’s delivered right to your doorstep! Natty’s Jerk Kitchen are one of my favourite food vendors, normally found at Outside-In Food Court but, of course, that is currently closed. Natty has been cooking up their Jamaican street food in his kitchen in Portsmouth, delivering to the people of Portsmouth & beyond and brightening up their days with home-cooked food.

A couple of weeks ago Natty’s Jerk Kitchen announced that they would be delivering further afield on Fridays & Saturdays with their own courier – and I couldn’t have been more excited! I’ve been missing eating at some of our favourite places lately (haven’t we all!) so it’s fantastic to see some of my favourite small businesses adapting to current times and expanding their food delivery areas.

Natty’s Jerk are on Deliveroo & UberEats for qualifying Portsmouth postcodes (PO1-PO6) Thursday – Sunday. On Fridays they are now delivering to Waterlooville, Havant, Bedhampton & the surrounding areas, and on Saturdays they are now delivering to Portchester, Fareham, Gosport & the surrounding areas. Fantastic news for anyone who previously was too far away for a delivery! The extended deliveries on Fridays & Saturdays have limited delivery slots and it’s best to pre-order in advance as they’re proving to be very popular.

Obviously we had to place a rather large order with Natty’s Jerk – Tom had never tried their food before, so I leapt at the opportunity to order several dishes. Our order arrived promptly on the Friday evening, with plenty of hot dishes delivered – I was pleased to see how warm everything was, considering the extra distance the food had travelled.

Look how delicious it all looks.

As you can see, we ordered a real feast! We took advantage of the free delivery offer if you spend over £40 – the minimum order amount is £25 with a delivery fee of £3. Everything we ordered was to be shared between us, and I’m proud to say we managed to eat the lot!

First up is a rack of jerk ribs. This portion was larger than I had imagined, sliced in half with another half hidden underneath. The jerk seasoning was spicy, as expected, and the ribs had a delicious smokey flavour.

We ordered 1/2lb of boneless chicken thigh – dry rubbed & marinated for 48 hours before being smoked & grilled over pimento wood and charcoal. These were just as delicious as they sound, and were our favourite dish! The chicken was smokey, crisp, full of flavour and tender.

It was just delicious and is something I’d absolutely recommend ordering.

The curry goat is one of Natty’s signature dishes and something I’d tried before at Outside-In Food Court, loaded over fries. This time we opted to just order the curry and it was full of flavour, with plenty of goat leg meat. I think I prefer the curry goat fries – but it was good!

Next is the fried jerk chicken burger, which I was (unsurprisingly) very excited about. If you’ve been around these parts for a while, you’ll know about my love of fried chicken!

This burger from Natty’s Jerk is unlike anything I’ve tried before, with such a unique & unusual combination of flavours and textures. It was delicious.

Jerk chicken thighs rolled in seasoned flour and fried, served in a vegan brioche bun and topped with Natty’s pickled mango & apple slaw, plantain and plenty of jerk BBQ sauce. How good does that sound? I loved the crunchy, fresh slaw and the chicken was beautifully cooked and spicy. I’m looking forward to having another of these!

We also ordered a portion of jerk seasoned fries to share – some carbs were needed to accompany our jerk meat feast! These were perfectly crisp and I loved the jerk seasoning.

Natty’s Jerk Kitchen cook up some really excellent, feel-good Jamaican street food and I’m so glad that they’re delivering further afield. Another great reason to order a takeaway! I love their food and it’s fantastic to see a small business like Natty’s thrive in these difficult times.

If you fancy ordering from Natty’s Jerk, you can find them on Facebook and Instagram along with Deliveroo & UberEats, where they have all of the details for how to order.
