Sunday Coffee Roasters, Portsmouth

Coffee. It’s what’s fuelling a lot of us at the moment, isn’t it? Hampshire is home to several fantastic independent coffee roasters, which is great news for those of us in need. Sunday Coffee Roasters are based in Portsmouth, normally serving at Canvas Coffee at Portsmouth & Southsea train station, which is currently closed. The Sunday Coffee Roasters story began back in 2014, when they opened up Canvas Coffee – back then, they were serving a range of speciality coffees from other roasters across the world.

From there the idea came that they could roast their own coffees – so, after attending some coffee roasting courses, Sunday Coffee Roasters was born! Roasting on Sundays (hence the name), Sunday Coffee Roasters are producing speciality coffee for the people of Portsmouth and beyond, available via their online shop (and in person, when allowed).

Being in dire need of some good coffee at home (even though I normally only drink decaf), I placed an order for their Quindío Sugarcane Decaf blend which, after a few weeks of drinking, I can safely say is excellent.

Sunday Coffee Roasters have several blends, each of which has unique characteristics and is carefully roasted – and the decaf is no exception. This is a well rounded, delicious coffee with notes of plum, green apple, orange & toffee and a lovely sweet finish. I’m a big fan.

I personally prefer to make coffee at home using our espresso machine (an old Delonghi one, for anyone wondering), so I ordered a bag of the espresso grind. Coming in at £8 for a 250g bag, this coffee is well priced – and you’re putting a smile on the face of an independent business owner every time you purchase one!

Served with some frothy steamed oat milk (I use Minor Figures), this is a truly delicious decaf – and I imagine their fully leaded blends are just as good.
