Moon Roast: Small-Batch Coffee

I think that one thing everyone can agree on is that coffee is extremely important at the moment – and most definitely classed as an essential in this household! Now that I’m working from home full time, along with a lot of the UK, it seemed like a good opportunity to order some good coffee from a local producer – while at the same time supporting a small business. A win win situation if ever there was one! Moon Roast are a small-batch coffee roasters based in rural Hampshire, near Basingstone and Alresford. They supply wholesale coffee to plenty of local businesses, and the good news is that they also package up and deliver freshly roasted coffee to your doorstep as well!

Moon Roast is a family business, started back in 2012 in a backyard. Since then they have expanded and in 2017 obtained their rural premises, converted into a purpose built roastery. Alongside their roastery they also run barista training sessions, roastery tours and they have a retail shop onsite. They’ve got the works!

On to the coffee – the most important part. Moon Roast roast their coffee at least twice a week, to ensure it is as fresh as possible. When I ordered my coffee, it had been roasted the day before it was delivered – I was very impressed by how fresh it was! The roast date is always on the bags so that you know when yours was roasted.

Moon Roast currently have 13 coffee blends available, which I was pleasantly surprised by – I wasn’t expecting such a large variety! Within this they do have one decaffeinated blend, the Arabica Decaf. I tend to only drink decaf, so I opted to order this one – I was pleased to be able to order a good decaf coffee as these aren’t always readily available.

As we’re in desperate times, I opted for the larger size of the ground coffee bag – needs must, after all. We normally brew our coffee in a cafetière, so I chose this version – coming to £13.80 for a 450g bag. For the quality, freshness and amount of coffee, I feel this price is very reasonable – especially when you’re supporting a small business.

I’ve been really enjoying drinking the Arabica Decaf – without trying to sound more knowledgable about coffee than I actually am, this blend is smooth, with a hint of sweetness, easy to drink and really delicious.
