AD – This meal from Sacred Chow was given in exchange for a review.
This past year has without a doubt been the year of the takeaway – and, if I’m honest, I’ve loved seeing so many fantastic food businesses pop-up and start delivering their excellent food! Sacred Chow has recently opened up several sites across Hampshire and the surrounding areas, delivering fresh, tasty, 100% plant-based food – we had our first meal delivered last weekend and it totally exceeded my expectations!
Sacred Chow was launched by Stuart, who previously worked for Just Eat and found the lack of exciting takeaways outside of London a little disheartening – enter Sacred Chow! Their aim is to deliver healthy, delicious, exciting food to people who live outside of major cities, in an environmentally sustainable way. All of the food cooked up by Sacred Chow is 100% plant-based and all of the packaging is from sustainable sources and fully recyclable – I was very pleased to see that even the carrier bag was made from plants! Sacred Chow also use local restaurants as their delivery partners, allowing them to support local businesses while ensuring that their food arrives at your door safely & efficiently.
I found the Sacred Chow website & ordering system very easy to use – and I was pleasantly surprised to see that you can pre-order your food for the next day in specific time slots! For someone who spends a lot of time thinking about their next takeaway (I know I’m not the only one!) this was fantastic to see. Once I had placed our order, we received regular text updates when our order was in the kitchen & again when our food was out for delivery. What an excellent service!
Enough delay – let me show you the food!
There are plenty of dishes to choose from – after much deliberation, we settled on the Sweet Potato Katsu Curry (no-brainer!) and the Jamaican Jerk Squash Curry, with sides of Rice and ‘Peas’ and Blue Corn Tortilla Chips. Our order arrived promptly within our booked time slot and all of our food was piping hot.

Both of the curries were fantastic – beautifully fragrant, delicious flavours and generous portion sizes.
The Sweet Potato Katsu Curry was just as tasty as I had expected, with the added bonus of edamame beans which was a pleasant surprise! A little sweet, a little spicy and very tasty. If you’re ordinarily a meat-lover, I can guarantee that you won’t feel like you’re missing out with this plant-based feast.
However, my personal favourite was the Jamaican Jerk Squash Curry – I’m a big fan of Jamaican food already, so I had a feeling that this would be a winner! Big chunks of tender butternut squash, a good amount of spice and plenty of zingy flavour – this was a very special dish that I’m aching to try to recreate! I’d absolutely recommend trying this if you order from Sacred Chow.

The Rice and ‘Peas’ side was a Caribbean classic – here using traditional kidney beans. I enjoyed this more than I expected – the rice had a fantastic texture and was lightly spiced. A good choice to accompany our curries!
I’ll admit that the main reason I ordered the Blue Corn Tortilla Chips was because they’re blue (I know, how childish), BUT they did make a welcome addition to our meal! So for novelty and the crunch factor, it’s a yes from me.

Everything we ordered from Sacred Chow was bursting with flavour and the portion sizes were just right – I have zero complaints! As someone who doesn’t have a plant-based diet but would like to eat more vegan food, this was right up my street and I’ll definitely be ordering again – a meal from Sacred Chow is the perfect choice if you’re in the mood for a takeaway but would like something healthier & more environmentally friendly.
Sacred Chow currently has 13 locations across West Sussex, Hampshire & Surrey, opening their Fareham & Portsmouth branches this month! They have a handy postcode checker on their website so that you can see if they deliver to you (fingers crossed they do!) and they’re hoping to expand into even more locations in the future – so if they don’t deliver to you yet, hopefully they will soon!
