There are so many excellent small businesses in Hampshire these days, across all sorts of industries – and one of my favourites is Southsea Bathing Hut. A small apothecary and lab based in Portsmouth, Southsea Bathing Hut is embracing Portsmouth’s history as a soap-making city and is bringing cruelty-free, vegan skincare products to the people of Portsmouth and beyond.
Southsea Bathing Hut is owned by Samantha, who taught herself to make soap some years ago – and in 2014 she decided to start selling her wares and started Southsea Bathing Hut. All of their ingredients are of the highest quality and are natural, ensuring that all of the products in their range are suitable for everyone to use.
I love the story behind Southsea Bathing Hut and their ambition to reintroduce soap-making back into Portsmouth – it’s refreshing to see something as unique as this come into the skincare market. A lot of Samantha’s products use ingredients sourced from the sea, with seaweed featuring as a main ingredient in her soaps and body lotions.
I first picked up some products from Southsea Bathing Hut back in 2016 (which feels like so long ago now) and I’d been meaning to try more from the range ever since – the soap bars I bought back then lasted months & months!

I’ve tried a small selection of products from Southsea Bathing Hut, all of which have a luxury feel, but my favourite has to be the Pure Hand & Body Lotion in the Lime, Rose Geranium & Seaweed scent. It’s such an incredible lotion!

Lately my hands have been much drier than usual, so I ordered this lotion in the hope it might help my hands without irritating them – and it has been amazing! It’s light, absorbs quickly and isn’t greasy – plus it leaves behind the most beautiful smell that transports you to a luxurious spa. If you haven’t yet tried anything from Southsea Bathing Hut, I’d suggest this as a great product to try first. I ordered the bigger 500ml version for £15.75, or you can try the 250ml version for £10.50.
A little goes a very long way, so I can see this lasting ages!

Another product I’ve tried before is the Artisan Soap Bars – these come in a variety of scents and are all lovely to use. With the increased demand lately for hand soap, I’ve decided to switch across to soap bars as they last so much longer – these ones I love as they’re more moisturising, smell fantastic and are all natural. Plus, by ordering these soap bars you’re supporting a small business – win win!
I’ve currently got the Lemon Soul Artisan Soap Bar which smells heavenly – a little bit like sherbet lemons. Each of these bars is £6 and can be used on your face & body too.

Last but not least, something slightly different – a Botanical Facial Steam aiming to refresh, tone and uplift. Something we all need these days!
This aromatic blend of natural ingredients including blue cornflower, cardamom, orange peel, rosehip & rosemary smells delicate and relaxing, and used weekly will help clear sinuses and unclog your pores. What more could you want?
Plus, after using this to steam your face you can strain the water and keep it in the fridge as a floral toner. Reduced waste and a refreshing toner that lasts a few days! This Botanical Facial Steam comes in at £6 and there are a few varieties.

Hopefully I’ve persuaded you to have a browse of the website and try a few products from Southsea Bathing Hut! It’s such a great local business and I’m hoping to pop into their shop at some point to explore the rest of the range.
If you’re not local to Hampshire – don’t worry! Southsea Bathing Hut now ship worldwide and are currently offering free UK delivery for orders over £15. If you’re running low on soap and are struggling to stock up (like we were) make sure to have a look at their soap bars.
Have you tried any products from Southsea Bathing Hut?
