AD – This meal at Bordon & Oakhanger Sports Club was complimentary with no obligation to review.
This weekend we headed over to Bordon & Oakhanger Sports Club (or BOSC for short!) for lunch and – spoiler alert – it was excellent. We’re regularly in the area as Tom’s parents live nearby, however BOSC is somewhere we hadn’t come across before – there really aren’t many places to eat out in the area, so when I was invited along for a meal I was excited to hopefully discover a new favourite local spot for us. And that is precisely what happened!
Bordon has been home to a cricket club for many years, previously using a traditional shed-style setup (which you will see in one of the old photographs below). When the Bordon redevelopment project started, they wanted to preserve the cricket club – so BOSC was built in 2018. It is a fantastic addition to the local area, providing a much needed food and event space – all housed in a beautiful building. I was so excited to see this American style building as we arrived for lunch – I haven’t seen anything else like this in Hampshire!
NOTE – BOSC is currently closed for the lockdown period. They are due to reopen from 2nd December – keep an eye on their website & social media for further updates.
Bordon & Oakhanger Sports Club is tucked away next to the new development in Whitehill, easy to find and with plenty of parking. The entrance to the restaurant is at the front of the building, where you will see this glorious view.

The restaurant itself is fairly cosy, with a few (socially distanced) tables & booths. Shortly after we arrived the rest of the tables filled up, so if you decide to visit I’d recommend booking ahead – just in case!
I was pleased to note that most of the other tables appeared to be regulars at BOSC – it was good to know that plenty of locals have been eating there often over the last few months!
With neutral interiors, cricket memorabilia and what I’m sure is a cosy log fire, the restaurant at Bordon & Oakhanger Sports Club felt very welcoming – which was only enhanced by the friendly staff. Our drinks order was taken very promptly upon sitting down at our booth and we didn’t have to wait long for our food to arrive.

The menu was surprisingly varied, with a few pub classics like sausage & mash alongside whitebait – one of our favourites and something I wasn’t expecting to see on the menu. All of the items are well priced – about average for this sort of establishment and good value considering the generous portion sizes.
After not eating out very much for the last few months, we were both excited to see our favourite starter on the menu – so, unsurprisingly, we both opted for the crispy whitebait to start. Served with a zingy lemon aioli, the whitebait was indeed beautifully crisp – I was very impressed by how good this was. The portions were pretty large, so perhaps one to share if you are visiting for lunch.

For the mains, we both opted for burgers – both served in brioche buns, which is always a promising start!
I chose to have the sriracha spiced chicken burger, served with a side of rather excellent chips. It was a nice change to have a grilled chicken burger rather than a fried one (you know my love for fried chicken!) and I thoroughly enjoyed this. Just the right amount of spice, perfectly cooked chicken and plenty of chips.

Tom ordered the BOSC beef burger – also served with a generous portion of chips. He really enjoyed his main course – good ingredients made for a great burger.

Even though we really didn’t have room for one – we opted for some homemade sticky toffee pudding to round off our lunch. With two spoons, of course! This was delightful – the sponge was light, the sauce wasn’t too sweet and it was simply delicious.

All in all, we really enjoyed our lunch at Bordon & Oakhanger Sports Club and I’m really looking forward to returning. The food was all fantastic, the service was speedy and the staff were all lovely – I don’t have a bad thing to say about BOSC!
During normal operational times, BOSC has a full calendar of events – including bottomless pizza & prosecco twice a month. Doesn’t that sound brilliant? They have lots of exciting things planned for 2021 and I’m looking forward to seeing what BOSC has in store.
Have a look at their website here and follow them over on Instagram or Facebook for their latest news.
