I’ve got another fantastic local coffee recommendation for you today! After drastically increasing my coffee intake over the past few weeks (mostly decaffeinated!), I’ve done a lot of research into local coffee roasters for my coffee supplies – and there are a fair few local roasters! SORoast is an artisan coffee roaster based in Southampton, with a curated selection of single origin & blended coffees available from their online shop.
SORoast started roasting their coffee around 7 years ago, using a popcorn machine to roast the coffee at the bottom of their garden. Gradually the business started to grow, and around 4 years ago the first SORoast roaster was purchased, with a 1 kilo capacity – fondly named Bertha. A year later, big Bertha was purchased – a much larger 15 kilo roaster, which is now used for all of the larger roasting batches. Little Bertha remains in use as an experimental roaster! Ensuring that their products are sustainable and eco-friendly is important to SORoast, so compostable packaging is used wherever they can and coffee is hand delivered whenever possible. I love the ethics & history of SORoast – and these are all great reasons to support them while fuelling your coffee drinking.
Being primarily a decaf coffee drinker (I know, how exciting!), I opted to try the decaf blend – but don’t let the thought of a decaf coffee put you off! SORoast treat their coffee with the utmost respect, decaffeinating the beans using the sparkling water process – a much more natural, gentle way of removing the caffeine which doesn’t compromise the flavour.

The coffee I bought was roasted & ground on the date I ordered it, arriving a couple of days later – I was impressed by the fast delivery and the freshness of the coffee. So much better than supermarket coffee or big name brands!
At £6 or £7 for a 240g bag of locally roasted coffee, SORoast is great value for money. They’ll grind it according to your needs, or you can buy whole beans. For the coffee enthusiasts out there, they also have coffee subscription plans for £6.95 per month – a brilliant idea, and something I’m pleased to see from a small business.

I’m really pleased with the decaf coffee from SORoast and I’ll be placing another order for some fully caffeinated coffee soon – I seem to be going through my coffee rather quickly at the moment! If you’re looking for some new coffee to try at home, I’d recommend trying some from SORoast.
