Gyros for breakfast. Do I have your attention now? Are you intrigued? When I heard about a little place in Horndean serving up their twist on Greek gyros for breakfast, I absolutely had to visit and try them for myself! Nico’s Food Bar is located on the main road in Horndean, opposite the roundabout and next to Four London Road.
Since our holiday to Corfu last year, I’ve discovered my love for Greek food – more specifically, gyros! Fresh flatbreads wrapped around meat, tzatziki, fries and other fillings – what’s not to love?

Nico’s are open for breakfast & lunch most days, with their breakfast menu served until midday – perfect for late risers! If you’re visiting by car, there is a small car park further up the road from Nico’s – it’s easy to find on Google Maps. They are primarily a deli-style sandwich shop, but they do have a small amount of tables and a dining in menu behind the bar.
We made sure to arrive early as it’s such a popular spot – so we were through the doors and seated at 8am. A great way to start a Saturday!

The breakfast menu is refreshingly different to the usual – which I absolutely love. Obviously, I chose the breakfast gyros – I couldn’t resist the temptation! At £6.95 the breakfast gyros are fantastic value for money.

Our breakfast gyros arrived very promptly and were much larger that I expected – which is always a good thing! Filled with streaky bacon, fried eggs, halloumi, cherry tomatoes, fries and tzatziki – all wrapped in a pillowy pita. This was a real feast of a breakfast and one of the best things I’ve eaten in a long time.
The tzatziki was the ingredient that really made these gyros stand out for me – the creamy, fresh, garlic flavoured concoction added a layer of delicious flavour that I wasn’t expecting. The bacon and halloumi worked so well together, and all in all this was a truly delicious breakfast.

It’s safe to say that after this huge breakfast gyros, we were definitely full until lunchtime! Every single part of our meal was excellent, and I can’t wait to revisit and have another gyros.

Nico’s have earned themselves a spot right at the top of my list of favourite places for breakfast, and rightly so – their breakfast gyros is a unique food offering that I’ve never seen anywhere else!
