Lunch at Four London Road, Horndean

Since moving to the local area a few years ago, Four London Road has been on my radar as somewhere I absolutely had to visit – and last weekend I finally did! Situated at the centre of Horndean, Four London Road is renowned for their excellent small plates, beautiful decor and welcoming atmosphere. Four London Road is ideally located at the heart of Horndean, just off the A3 and walking distance for many locals. As soon as we stepped inside, it was clear why this is such a popular spot!

The interior is all sorts of beautiful, with intricate lighting, a portion of glass floor, quirky wall art and exposed brick. Very Pinterest-worthy indeed.

When we arrived, all of the tables were booked up ahead of a busy weekend – so if you do visit, make sure to plan ahead!

Tucked away in our booth, we took a long time perusing the menu and talking food tactics. The menu is designed for sharing, with a huge variety of small plates and a modest list of pizzas. We decided to try something from each of the small plate sections, as well as a pizza to share – which was plenty of food!

We opted for one of the specials, the tri-colour veggie fries – crispy carrot, beetroot and parsnips served with aioli for dunking. A very nice twist on normal fries, and a great way for us to pretend to be healthy!

From the pil pil options, we chose the prawn – in a spicy garlic & chilli sauce, served with plenty of bread to soak it all up. The prawns were delicate and fresh, and the pil pil sauce was delicious. Just the right amount of heat!

Our pizza was the cajun chicken, topped with rocket, red onions and sweet red peppers. The base was perfectly cooked and crisp, and the toppings all tasted fresh and delicious. Half of this did end up in my fridge for later – which was good cold too.

My favourite of the small plates was the mediterranean sea bass – served atop crispy potatoes, kalamata olives and cherry tomatoes. The addition of olives to this really made the dish for me, and the sea bass was perfectly cooked and seasoned. All in all, a delight to eat – and a generously sized portion.

From the meat options we chose to try the roasted paprika and lemon chicken, served with onions, tomatoes and a drizzle of aioli. The chicken was very tender and the combination of flavours was delicious.

Everything was fresh and well cooked, with humble presentation (which I love) and a fantastic combination of flavours. The dishes all worked well together, and I can see this becoming one of our new favourite places.

Ending on a sweet note, we chose to try the Horndean Truffles for dessert – and oh my, these were incredible. I’ve never had truffles quite like these before! Both with caramel flavours, crisp dark chocolate outsides and smooth fillings – these are a must try for me if you visit.

After our visit, I can see why Four London Road is so popular – they absolutely deserve all of the praise they get. I’ve already told all of my colleagues that they need to visit soon!

I can see Four London Road being the perfect spot for a date night or for drinks & food with friends. It’s such a lovely venue with a brilliant, attentive team and delicious food all round. I haven’t got a bad thing to say about Four London Road, and I can’t wait to visit again – perhaps for one of their filled Yorkshire puddings on a Sunday (they sound incredible).
