Hoxton Bakehouse at God's House Tower, Southampton

Southampton is full of history, with many of it’s sites in the centre of the city – one of which is God’s House Tower. The buildings which make up God’s House Tower are some of the oldest in the city, originally built as a resting place for travellers en-route to Canterbury. Newly refurbished towards the end of 2019, it is now an arts and heritage centre at the entrance to Southampton’s Old Town. With exhibitions, workshops, art galleries, rooftop views over modern Southampton and Hoxton Bakehouse, the refurbishment makes it a valuable addition to the city.

Enough about the history – today, I’m here to tell you about baked goods! You may remember my visit to Hoxton Bakehouse in Winchester a while ago – and I’m excited to say that there is now one open in Southampton, nestled on the ground floor of God’s House Tower.

Hoxton Bakehouse is well known across Hampshire for their excellent pastries, bread and coffee – so if you’re local, it’s likely you’ve already visited.

When you enter the building you’ll immediately find yourself at Hoxton Bakehouse, with plenty of seating and some products from local artists for you to browse before you sit down. Hoxton Bakehouse have a range of baked goods available to buy – pastries, sandwiches and filled croissants take centre stage. On their drinks menu you’ll find oat milk as an alternative, so they are able to cater for most needs.

On this visit I opted for an oat milk flat white (adorned with some impressive foam art) and a ham & cheese croissant. Hoxton Bakehouse is fairly inexpensive, giving you another reason to make this your new coffee shop haunt.
