Reading has become my favourite form of escapism over the last few weeks. Now more than ever I’m enjoying exploring new worlds, meeting new characters and learning new things – reading is the perfect solution to feeling a little stuck. It’s certainly helped prevent me going a little stir-crazy at home! Reading is something I used to do a lot more of – back at school I was a real bookworm, ploughing my way through series and racking up quite the body count of books. In the past few years however, I seem to have reserved reading a good book for holidays only – I’m not sure why, but I seemed to lose my love of reading. There was always an excuse – not enough time, scrolling through instagram takes priority, nothing to read – and I’m so glad I’ve found that love again.
Over the past couple of weeks I’ve managed to amass quite a large stack of books in my to be read pile – a rather intimidating amount, actually! So, I thought I’d share the books currently sat in my lockdown reading pile just in case you’re finding yourself reading more during this time too. Hopefully this will inspire your future book purchases!

I won’t give an overview of each book, as obviously I haven’t read any of them as yet! Queenie is actually next on my reading list, as the May read for Beth’s Book Club – which, if you aren’t a member of already, you should be!
What’s on my Lockdown Reading List:
THE GOOD PEOPLE – HANNAH KENT
THE HANDMAID’S TALE – MARGARET ATWOOD
NORSE MYTHOLOGY – NEIL GAIMAN
UNNATURAL CAUSES – DR RICHARD SHEPHERD
EVERYTHING I NEVER TOLD YOU – CELESTE NG
THE TATTOOIST OF AUSCHWITZ – HEATHER MORRIS
THE NIGHTINGALE – KRISTIN HANNAH
CIRCE – MADELINE MILLER
ONCE UPON A RIVER – DIANE SETTERFIELD
HALF A WORLD AWAY – MIKE GAYLE
WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING – DELIA OWENS
VOX – CHRISTINA DALCHER
THE CACTUS – SARAH HAYWOOD
ELEANOR OLIPHANT IS COMPLETELY FINE – GAIL HONEYMAN
QUEENIE – CANDICE CARTY-WILLIAMS
THE FAMILIARS – STACEY HALLS
Quite a lot of the books in my stack have come highly recommended from friends – or I’ve seen a huge amount of hype around them which has made me curious!
FYI – Pigeon Books is a fantastic independent bookstore in Portsmouth, if you’re in the market for some new books – and they’re posting further afield if you need it!

I’m looking forward to getting stuck into this stack of books – and later turning them into a very instagrammable rainbow bookshelf, of course.
I want to know – what are you currently reading? Which books are waiting to be read in your lockdown reading stack? Give me some recommendations!

Hi Kat, lovely photos as usual, and I’ve not heard of any of those you have posted.
I’m currently re-reading the delightful Wind in the Willows – most excellent!
In my list I have the self-development book “What to Say When you Talk To Yourself”
(1990 | ISBN: 0671708821 | 256 pages), which sounds intriguing – “You don’t have to be crazy to talk to yourself! We all talk to ourselves all of the time,….and most of what we tell ourselves is negative, counterproductive and damaging….. Shad Helmsetter’s simple but profound techniques…. have enabled thousands of people to get back in control of their lives.” Best wishes.
What a great reading list! Your list is a lot longer. Right now I am reading ‘pop goes the weasel’ by Arlidge. And I also want to read the Beck Albertalli books. I bought them last week.
Wow, great photos! What camera do you use? & this is such a great list. Most of the books I haven’t heard. thanks for sharing.
Thank you! These were taken with my Olympus Pen EPL-8 🙂
