UPDATE – Fifteen Cornwall sadly closed their doors in December 2019 and is no longer operating.
Nestled into the cliff at Watergate Bay, near Newquay, you’ll find a real gem – Jamie’s Fifteen. Celebrating the best of Cornish produce on an extensive menu, Jamie’s Fifteen is a fantastic restaurant that I can’t wait to return to.
The setting alone makes this one of the most fantastic restaurants I’ve visited – with panoramic views over Watergate Bay, you really can’t beat the view and the food is excellent as well.

Inside Fifteen you’ll find light, airy decor and lots of natural colours – perfect coastal design! We sat down next to the windows with our menus to admire the view and peruse the food options.

The menu is broken down into little bites (nibbles while you choose), small plates (starters), and mains – pasta, risotto and large plates.

Unable to resist the temptation of Cornish crab, I opted for the Cornish dressed crab with watercress, almonds, tomatoes and marjoram.
Fresh summer flavours that complemented each other perfectly, celebrating the in-season Cornish produce so well. The differing textures of the crab, crunchy nuts and tomatoes was refreshing and interesting.

Tom chose the potato gnocchi with pancetta, tomato, chilli and Parmagiano Reggiano – classic italian flavours, served simply to best emphasise the fresh gnocchi. The gnocchi is made in-house daily and is excellent – the best gnocchi I’ve tried!

For my large plate I chose the hake – a fish that I don’t see on menus as often as I’d like.
Served pan fried with roast courgette, mammoth green olives, local potatoes and lemon aioli – I loved every single part of the dish! I’m always a huge fan of aioli, so that was a perfect sauce for me, and the hake fillets were tender and crisp. The addition of the green olives was unusual and very welcome – I love olives, and this might persuade me to introduce them into my cooking at home.

Tom and Dad opted for the T-bone to share, after much deliberation – and it was an excellent choice. A mountain of steak, served with broccoli and pan-roasted buttered carrots – plus a side of Cornish potatoes. The steak was very well cooked and melted in the mouth, and was large enough to share with the rest of the table.
Delicious, and an excellent choice if you’re heading to Jamie’s Fifteen for a special occasion.

The desserts at Fifteen were just as tempting as the rest of the menu – so of course, we didn’t try very hard to resist!
Panna cotta with local strawberries and meringue. A refreshing dessert celebrating British strawberries.

The star of the show was the dark chocolate sorbet – served with chocolate ganache and chocolate crisp. This was unlike anything I’ve tried before – I don’t think I’ve ever seen a dark chocolate sorbet on a menu before, but it’s something I’d definitely have again.

We had an excellent meal at Jamie’s Fifteen, and if you find yourself near Newquay you absolutely have to visit. It’s very popular, so I’d recommend booking – and if you do visit, the public car park next to Fifteen gets very busy because of the beach and you have to pay. Fifteen would be perfect for a special occasion with family, or for a date with your better half – whatever reason you have for visiting, you’re guaranteed to have lovely time.
