DIY Christmas Wreath Kit from Camilla’s Creations

Making your own Christmas wreath has to be one of the most festive activities out there – accompanied by mulled wine, mince pies & Christmas music, you’re all set for a glorious afternoon! Before this year I hadn’t actually made my own wreath before, so as it is our first Christmas in our new house I thought it was the perfect time to make a luxury wreath for our front door! As Christmas wreath workshops aren’t able to go ahead this year, many florists across Hampshire have created DIY wreath kits available for home delivery – a perfect compromise for some festive fun! I ordered my DIY Christmas Wreath Kit from Camilla’s Creations – a lovely small biz based in Hambledon (where we’ve just moved from!).

Camilla has three versions of the DIY Christmas Wreath Kit to choose from, depending on which style suits you best. You can decide between Traditional Christmas, Wild Woodland & White Winter (which includes some beautiful eucalyptus!) – I opted for the Wild Woodland kit as we tend to go for a more natural look. The kits are £40 each plus postage, which for me was £5.50. Have a look at the kits here!

Being the eager beaver that I am, I ordered my DIY Christmas Wreath Kit for the earliest possible delivery date to maximise the Christmas fun – it is 2020, after all! My kit arrived on Friday 27th November, ready for me to spend Saturday morning getting creative. Hand delivered to my doorstep (contactless, of course) by Camilla herself, the kit came beautifully packaged in a box, complete with a bow. I also received an email on Friday morning with a link to watch the accompanying DIY Christmas Wreath Kit video tutorial, with Camilla demonstrating how to create your festive wreath.

Inside your box you’ll find printed instructions for how to create your wreath, alongside:

  • Pre-mossed 10″ wreath ring
  • Reel Wire
  • Blue Spruce
  • Foliage to compliment your chosen style
  • Christmas accessories to compliment your chosen style (e.g. pine cones, dried fruit)
  • Ribbon to finish
  • Twine or string to hang the wreath from your chosen location

There was plenty of materials ensuring you get a full wreath, so don’t worry about being sparing with your design!

I laid everything out ready to begin – making quite a mess in the lounge – and grabbed my secateurs. These aren’t included in the kit, but if you don’t have secateurs then kitchen scissors would also work just fine.

The moss was much more damp than I was expecting which made the process of creating my wreath a little messy! A good hoover afterwards cleaned everything up just fine – but just a word of warning, perhaps a table cloth might be a good idea.

I found that I didn’t really refer to the written instructions, as Camilla’s video was very informative and demonstrated each step of making the wreath clearly. It was useful being able to rewind the video a few times when I got confused! I stuck on some Christmas music and started getting creative – making the wreath took me around an hour.

The first step was to create the base layer using blue spruce – which was the most beautiful colour! The reel wire was already attached to the wreath ring, which made everything very easy. I found it a little fiddly wrapping the wire underneath the wreath to start with, but soon got the hang of it.

Once the blue spruce base was complete, it was time for step two – the fun part! The decorative foliage included in my kit was a mixture of green foliage and some dried fern, all early tied up in separate bundles.

The method for this part of the DIY Christmas Wreath Making Kit was a lot of arranging, wedging the foliage into the blue spruce and wrapping the wire around each section to secure it. I had the foliage fairly evenly spaced and found that I had plenty left over to fill in any gaps with.

I absolutely loved how my wreath looked after adding the foliage! Everything was very secure and I love how different bits of foliage all stick out of the wreath.

The final step was to add the Christmas accessories – for my kit, that was pine cones. After carefully arranging them around the wreath, I then fixed them in place with the thicker green wire. I toyed around with the placement of the ribbon to finish off my wreath, but I decided that I preferred the way the wreath looked without the ribbon.

Voila – here is the finished article, proudly displayed on our front door! I love how natural & unique it looks, and the colours in the wreath go well with our rather bright front door.

I had a brilliant time making our Christmas wreath, and it was made even more special knowing that it is going on the door of our new house! The DIY Christmas Wreath Kit from Camilla was very easy to use, great value for money and everything included was excellent quality – I’m so pleased with how it turned out and I now want a wreath for every season!
