Nestled down a country lane in Cornwall is where you’ll find a cosy and unassuming pub – The Pickwick Inn. Ideally located a short drive from the bustling towns of Padstow and Wadebridge, The Pickwick Inn is a warm and welcoming country pub.
As you enter the doors, you’ll find yourself inside a quintessentially British pub – full of wooden beams, cosy booths and lots of nooks & crannys to explore. Venture a little further inside and you’ll find yourself in Oliver’s Restaurant, a much more modern eatery hidden at the back of the historic Pickwick Inn.

From your seat in Oliver’s restaurant at The Pickwick, you’re met with unrivalled views across the Cornish countryside and over to a neighbouring cove. A beautiful setting for a leisurely dinner.
If you’re wondering why there’s a pool – The Pickwick also has a number of rooms available if you’d like to stay for a night (or more).
The menu at The Pickwick offers a range of dishes to suit most diets, with plenty of locally sourced ingredients. If you see something on the menu that takes your fancy but doesn’t meet your dietary requirements, the chefs are more than happy to accommodate any requests where possible.
I ordered a G&T to start things off – keeping local with some Tarquin’s & tonic.

To start I opted for the crispy calamari – if there’s calamari on the menu, I’m almost always going to order it!
I really, really enjoyed the calamari – it was excellent. Perhaps it was our proximity to the sea, or simply the chef’s talents – but this was some of the best calamari I’ve had in a long time. Served with the classic accompaniment of garlic mayonnaise, it was an excellent start to the meal.
For the main, I also chose seafood – I always prefer to order seafood, especially when I’m in Cornwall as it’s locally sourced.
This is the special that was available when we visited – pan-seared scallops served with a smoked bacon, mushroom & white wine sauce, with a side of salad and fries.
The sauce was incredible – and I don’t like mushrooms! Rich and indulgent, the sauce paired beautifully with the scallops – which were fresh and perfectly cooked.
For dessert I opted for an affogato – one of our favourite after-dinner indulgences. Hot espresso poured over vanilla ice cream is always a winner!
The affogato at The Pickwick was served with a shot and a piece of shortbread.
We enjoyed our meal at The Pickwick Inn, and I’d definitely like to return the next time we’re in Cornwall – I’ve heard that their Sunday lunches are worth trying!
Price-wise, The Pickwick is on the fancier end of things, which you’ll find in a lot of similar places in Cornwall – but if you’re celebrating or just fancy treating yourselves, it’s a great spot.
