Everyone loves staying in a hotel – and sometimes it’s even nicer to indulge in a little ‘staycation’! So, that’s precisely what we did last week at Room2 Hometel in Southampton. The new Room2 Hometel opened this month (read about the launch event here) and I was so excited to return for a nights stay.
Our room for the night was one of the Master Loft rooms, complete with a beautiful view over Queens Park. Imagine waking up to that in the morning!
Each of the rooms comes with a fully equipped kitchen – and there’s even some essentials like washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets and olive oil! I realise this may be an odd thing to get excited about, but who else finds it so irritating having to buy huge bottles of these items whenever you go on holiday? I know I certainly do!
You’ll also find a selection of hot drinks and nibbles waiting for you, with locally sourced coffee from the lovely people at Coffee Mongers in Lymington – which is delicious. I think it’s a really thoughtful touch to pop a cafetière and some local ground coffee in each room, as the smell of fresh coffee in the morning is a real cosy, homely smell. So much better than instant coffee!
Next up – step this way into one of the most beautiful bathrooms you’ll ever see…
Just look at that shower! There are over 70 rooms at Room2, spread over 4 floors, and each floor is either pink or green. Our room was full of the most beautiful pastel green – and these amazing bathroom tiles!
If you forget your shampoo and conditioner (I managed to do so!) you needn’t worry, as you’ll find shampoo, conditioner and body wash in your shower ready for you to use. I’ve never used rum body wash before – but now I think I’ll have to buy some! (It’s here if you’re intrigued too…)
As you may have guessed from the name of the room, it has a little loft – the perfect sized cubby hole for kids to sleep if you’re staying as a family, or an extra place to lounge if it’s just the two of you staying. I did find it quite hard to contain my excitement when I realised our room came with a ladder up to a little hideaway!
You get a pretty good view over the room below from up there. Like a traditional ladder on a ship, you have to go down the same way you came up – which is a little backwards, but a wonderful novelty!
The rooms come with a bits & bobs box – full of sellotape, batteries, post-its, little games and more. All of the things that you might not think you need – until you need it!
Each room, regardless of the size, has a king-size bed. Perfect for the most gloriously comfortable night sleep, and with marshmallow sheets and pillows you’re bound to be asleep in minutes.
After familiarising ourselves with our room and ordering a deliveroo, we settled down for the evening with a bottle of wine. Armed with our sushi, we did indeed ‘wine down’ – pun intended!
The next morning we took advantage of our ridiculously comfortable bed and had a little lie in, before heading down to the Living Room for breakfast. Our view over the park was a beautiful sight to wake up to!
One of the most important things for me in a hotel room is the shower – if it dribbles out water, it’s not going to set you up for a good day! However, the shower at Room2 was excellent – high pressure, warm and spacious. A great way to start the morning!
Breakfast is a buffet style affair downstairs in the Living Room, with fresh orange juice, tea and coffee, accompanied by a range of breakfast choices.
There’s a boil your own egg station – with a choice of brown, white or gluten free bread for your soldiers.
There’s a make your own waffle station as well, with a selection of toppings. I couldn’t resist having a go at making my own waffle!
Breakfast was very relaxed, where you pick and choose whatever you like, and keep going back for more if you feel so inclined. With the same excellent tea and coffee as is provided in your room, there’s endless caffeine available to get you ready for the day.
After breakfast we headed back up to our room to stretch out and take advantage of our 2pm check out. I jumped straight back into that cosy bed with a mug of tea, and we spent the rest of the morning relaxing. What a wonderful way to spend a Friday!

Even if you aren’t staying for the night, make sure to pop into the Living Room for a coffee! Their cappuccinos are excellent.
I’ve filmed a video about our stay with a room tour so you can get a proper feel of the size of the rooms – have a watch below!
*I was invited to Room2 Hometel to stay for the night in exchange for a review, but all views are my own.*
