Launch of Room2 Hometel, Southampton

There’s a brand new hotel concept in town – and let me tell you, it is amazing. Let me introduce you to Room2 Hometel, newly opened in Southampton near the docks, combining the convenience of a hotel, the flexibility of an Airbnb and the comfort of a home. A Hometel! I was so excited to be invited along to the launch event of the Room2 Hometel, and was taken aback by just how beautiful everything inside is.

Let me show you around…

You’ll find the new Room2 near Ocean Village and Oxford Street, overlooking Queens Park (which makes for a lovely view).

There are a range of room types and sizes, all with different colours and quirks. Each room comes with a full kitted out kitchen, spacious bathroom and memory foam bed – with enough space in the room to allow you to stay for an extended period of time.

The family rooms have a little loft built in to the room, with a step ladder that brings childhood memories rushing back. I used to love my bunk bed – what a fantastic idea to incorporate one into a hotel room! It’s not just for kids…

I was pleasantly surprised at how much each of the rooms excelled my expectations. With the smell of freshly cooked waffles creeping around the corridors, the entire hotel had a really cosy, homey feeling and each room was so inviting. Full of fun colours, fantastic views and with all your necessities in each room, I never wanted to leave!

Room2 have an impressive spread for breakfasts, including a make-your-own waffle station, which they had out ready for us to play with during the event. Who doesn’t love a good waffle – I know I do!

The entrance and downstairs area is spacious and inviting, with the smell of freshly ground coffee and the sound of laughter drawing you in. The downstairs lobby is called the ‘Living Room’ – aptly named for a hometel!

Room2 are proud to offer locally sourced food and drinks in their Living Room, with gluten and dairy free options available – so that you can have access to whatever you might use at home, whilst you are away. They even encourage you to order a takeaway to your room – whatever you would normally do at home, you’re allowed to do here!

Their coffee is supplied by Coffee Mongers, located in Lymington, and is simply fantastic. You must try this if you find yourself nearby.

Local distillery HMS Spirits was also at the launch event, with their Mary Rose Gin. Subtle and with a hint of rosemary, this gin was really special – the perfect tipple for a summer evening!

The Pantry is stocked with all the essentials you could need for the kitchen in your room, and more. With a fantastic selection of ingredients, fresh fruit and ready to make meals, you’re spoilt for choice!

I had an absolutely fantastic evening meeting the friendly team at Room2 Southampton, exploring the hometel, drinking gin and finding out more about the concept. I’ve never seen anything quite like the new hometel concept, and it is definitely a winner for me. I’ll be back very soon to book a night away – and you should definitely book too!

Find out more about Room2 Southampton here, and how to book here. If you’re local, you should definitely pop in for a coffee and to explore the hotel. What’s stopping you?

*I was kindly invited along to this event, but all views are my own (as always!) – but seriously, this hotel is amazing.

  1. This post was really interesting! I know Southsmpton well and often go shopping there. What a wonderful creative idea for a modern hotel. I’m sure it will be successful. I’m off to look up the prices now. Your photos are excellent.
