Four Highlights from 2022

2022 was an… interesting year overall, for lots of different reasons – a few of which have resulted in an unintentionally long break from this space (oops). So – I thought I’d share some highlights from the last year, both food & non-food related!

No.1 : A trip to Bath

Bath has been HIGH on my list of cities in the UK I absolutely have to visit – and it’s without a doubt one of my favourite things we did this year! We visited the Thermae Bath Spa which was excellent, had plenty of sushi, wandered along the river, browsed in the best bookshop I’ve ever had the pleasure of setting food in & drank plenty of flat whites.

I’m intending to share more information about everything we did on our trip – but here’s a brief overview:

  • Wine & Charcuterie at Beckford Bottle Shop
  • Book browsing at Topping & Co.
  • Sushi at Robun
  • Strolling past Pulteney Bridge
  • Breakfast at Cortado
  • Walking along the river
  • Exploring Bath Abbey
  • Flat Whites at Cortado

No. 2 : Dinner at The Hut, Colwell Bay

Dining at The Hut was a bit of a bucket list dream of ours – partly because it’s so popular & bookings fill up fast, & partly because it’s a *very* expensive place to visit.

However – we finally managed to get a booking on a weekend in September – so we arranged a weekend on the Isle of Wight around our dinner (why not!) & headed to The Hut on a sunny late summer evening.

The food was excellent – I’ll be writing a separate post all about it – but it was even more expensive than we had anticipated, so one to save for a special occasion! It’s a beautiful location & one that I imagine is hard to beat.

No.3 : Using our TentBox for the first time!

We took the plunge earlier this year & made the decision to upgrade our camping setup to include a TentBox – mainly prompted by the fact our campervan was somewhat… unreliable. In fact, we decided to sell our van a few months ago as we’re so pleased with our new car & TentBox setup – we’ll convert a newer van in the future!

Our maiden voyage with the TentBox was to our favourite campsite – Durdle Door Holiday Park in Dorset, one we’ve returned to many times! The TentBox worked brilliantly (pictured here with our SheltaPod also setup) & we’re excited to use it a lot more this year.

For the camping enthusiasts – I’ll share a more in depth review of our TentBox soon!

No.4 : A trip to the Lake District

The Lake District used to be an annual holiday destination for me throughout my childhood – and it’s somewhere I hadn’t returned to for about 10 years! We headed up to the Lakes in October for a week & it was so lovely to explore the local areas – and return to Ambleside after so many years!

Here’s to 2023 & everything it holds – which includes a big life event for me (eek!)
