Dinner at Rojano’s in the Square, Padstow

If you’ve ever been to Cornwall you’ll know that it’s a hotspot for excellent restaurants and celebrity chefs, with restaurants in several towns owned by the likes of Rick Stein, Paul Ainsworth, Nathan Outlaw and Jamie Oliver. Padstow is a foodie hotspot, home to many Stein & Ainsworth restaurants – one of which is Rojano’s in the Square.

Each time we visit Padstow, we always make sure to visit Rojano’s – both before and after Paul Ainsworth took over the restaurant. Rojano’s serves up excellent Italian food with a relaxed atmosphere and is one of our favourite restaurants in Padstow, but being located where it is means that everything is a little more expensive than your standard Italian.

You’ll find Rojano’s nestled down one of the side roads leading to the harbour, with an outside terrace and a balcony – perfect for warm summer evenings.

To start we ordered olives and garlic bread to share – and the garlic bread was, dare I say, the best I’ve ever had. Seriously – if you visit Padstow, it’s worth going to Rojano’s just for the garlic bread!

The others had BBQ mackerel on sourdough toast and grilled bruschetta ‘Funghi’ with mild mushrooms – both of which I was assure were delicious.

For my main, I simply couldn’t resist the lure of a good pizza – coupled with fries and red wine, of course! What a combination. I chose the Italian pizza topped with parma ham, a soft boiled St. Ewe egg (locally sourced & delicious) and basil. Absolutely delicious, with simple flavours. If you visit Rojano’s, this is a pizza I’d recommend trying.

In true Italian style, we finished off the meal with an Affogato – however, this one was served with a twist from Rojano’s, with pimped-up vanilla brown butter soft serve ice cream. Doesn’t that sound heavenly? Simply pour over your espresso and enjoy.

Rojano’s is a proper Padstow institution and is somewhere that we’ve visited many times over the years, and it never disappoints. If you decide to go, make sure to book – it gets very busy! It’s the perfect place for date night or a meal with friends and family, with a bustling atmosphere and attentive staff. Find the Rojano’s website here, and their menu here.
