Gunwharf Quays is home to an assortment of cafes, coffee shops, restaurants and foodie spots, the majority of which are part of larger chains – however, a relatively new addition to the popular shopping location is The Parade Tearooms. A firm favourite among locals who visit the original Southsea branch, The Parade Tearooms opened their doors in Gunwharf Quays in 2019 and have been incredibly busy ever since – which is a joy to see when they are surrounded by so many chains and competition.
The Parade Tearooms is exactly what it sounds – primarily a tearoom, but they serve so much more than just cake. Always full at lunchtimes, they have an extensive lunch menu alongside homemade cakes and plenty of hot drinks – which are available to take away if you wish.
I’ve visited many times for a coffee (a soy flat white is my go-to order) but I haven’t yet eaten in – I’ve heard excellent things about their breakfasts as well.

I’m so pleased to see a small, independent business like The Parade Tearooms doing so well in such a busy, chain-led location like Gunwharf Quays. It’s a great alternative to Cafe Nero and Costa, and a fraction of the price as well.
Since visiting The Parade Tearooms for the first time when they opened in Gunwharf Quays last year, I’ve become a true regular. The coffee is good, the prices are cheap and it’s all supporting an independent business – which I always prefer to do. The atmosphere is inviting and cosy, the freshly baked cakes look delicious and I’d recommend a visit!
If you fancy visiting The Parade Tearooms on your next trip to Gunwharf Quays, you’ll find them opposite the Tesco Express. They also have their bigger original branch open on Southsea Common, which I haven’t yet visited – but is very popular.
