The Winchester Guidebook

As we’re all stuck at home for a little while, unable to visit our favourite coffee shops and explore our favourite places, life can get a little frustrating – and a lot of us have been turning to reading to keep our minds active and wanderlust at bay. I recently purchased a copy of the relatively new The Winchester Guidebook, which is the perfect book for anyone missing their favourite independent businesses in this beautiful city. I’ve wanted a copy for ages, and now seemed like the perfect time to buy one.

So – why not embark on a tour of Winchester from your armchair?

I absolutely love the idea behind The Winchester Guidebook and I think it’s a brilliant way of showcasing all of the cities best independent businesses in one place. Covering all types of business from retail shops and restaurants to cafes, galleries and local producers – this book has it all, and then some.

The Winchester Guidebook

I won’t go on and spoil too much of what is inside The Winchester Guidebook – but I will mention a few of my favourite businesses which are featured within the pages.

The Hambledon – One of Winchester’s best shops, The Hambledon holds a beautiful collection of homewares, books, clothes and beauty products – amongst other things. Everything for sale has been carefully curated and laid out in the most appealing way – I always love popping in for a browse.

The Consortium – Another of my favourite shops in Winchester! Every time we head into the city I make sure to head inside and explore the many nooks & crannies in this shop – a lovely and unusual collection of homewares, jewellery and knick-knacks is housed in here.

Hoxton Bakehouse – An excellent bakery & coffee shop on Jewry Street and a must-visit each time we go to Winchester. Their pastries are to die for, the sourdough is excellent and the coffee is strong. (I wrote a post about them here)

Josie’s – Anyone that’s a regular around these parts will know how I feel about Josie’s – I absolutely love it there! We tend to visit the Petersfield branch more often, but each of their spots serves seriously good brunch food – amongst other offerings. Plus, excellent coffee. (I’ve written about them here)

Rawberry – Yet another fantastic eatery in Winchester! This one is vegan, healthy and colourful – I love it here. Their juices are delicious, I always enjoy their baked goods and the staff are so friendly. (See my post about them here)

Forte Kitchen – A great spot for breakfast, it’s cosy and perfect for intimate gatherings. I haven’t been for a while, so will have to visit as soon as I can! (See my post here)

Overdraft – One of my new favourite places to eat in Winchester! Overdraft serve up some seriously good tacos, they have a wonderfully relaxed setting and a huge range of craft beers on tap. Another must-visit. (I’ve written about them here)

Moonroast Coffee – A new favourite for me, and a must have when you’re working from home! Delivering freshly roasted coffee to your doorstep – a fantastic local producer we can support from home.

Winchester Distillery – Gin. And it’s good. Known for their Twisted Nose gin, Winchester Distillery create some exquisite gins that I absolutely need to stock up on!

Hambledon Vineyard – A personal favourite of mine for a few years (they’re close to where we live) and a great place to visit for a day out. The vineyard is actually around 20 mins from Winchester and they produce the most delicious english sparkling wine. (I’ve written about them here)

The Winchester Guidebook

As you can see, The Winchester Guidebook contains some excellent independent businesses within its pages – and this is just a small taste of some of my favourites.

If you’re interested in some local reading, you can shop the book here. I hope you enjoy The Winchester Guidebook and manage to find a few new favourites!
