Looking for a fantastic breakfast spot in Southsea that’ll tick all of your boxes? Look no further, as that’s precisely what I have for you today.
Regular readers will know how much I love finding new breakfast spots (who doesn’t?) and I have a brilliant one to tell you about. Portsmouth is home to a host of independent businesses, restaurants and cafes – and one of their most loved local spots is Becketts Southsea. Close to the seafront in Portsmouth, Becketts is ideally placed and is always bustling.

I headed to Becketts for breakfast and a catch up with my friend Bex (find her blog here) as we had both been itching to visit for a long time. Let’s head inside, shall we?

Becketts has been serving the people of Portsmouth for over 30 years, and was taken over in 2016 by new owners who had a vision for the restaurant – since then they have worked wonders in bringing it back to life. There are boutique bedrooms, private dining rooms and wood panelled rooms – the decor alone is worth visiting for!
As soon as you walk through the flower archway and into the restaurant, the cosy wooden interiors and friendly staff welcome you in and show you to your table. Whenever I visit somewhere that ticks all of my boxes (food, service and decor) I know that it’s something I simply have to shout about.

The breakfast & brunch menu is extensive, with a Becketts twist on classics like a Full English, vegan options and sweet treats should you prefer something a little more decadent. The next time I visit, I may have to try the french toast!
We both opted for a Smoked Salmon Stack – toasted sourdough topped with smoked salmon, sliced avocado, cream cheese and capers. A treat for both the eyes and the tastebuds!
You can’t beat a good breakfast with smoked salmon, and the offering from Becketts Southsea was excellent. A simple combination of flavours that worked so well together – especially the addition of the salty capers. All washed down with tea and flat whites, we chatted away over good food for a couple of hours.

The next time you’re in Portsmouth, stop by Becketts for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner – they serve good food all day with a beautifully relaxed atmosphere. Their service was friendly and efficient, and they were happy to let us spend a few hours having breakfast – so there’s no rush to leave. I’d suggest booking a table as it can get very busy – and have a peek at their menu here!
