A good breakfast spot is always a satisfying thing to stumble upon, isn’t it? That’s precisely what we found one drizzly December morning, just off of Winchester High Street and the perfect cosy spot for breakfast with friends. Forte Kitchen is a wonderful combination of home cooked food, beautiful decor and excellent coffee – everything you need for a good breakfast.
You’ll find Forte Kitchen through a small doorway and up an even smaller flight of stairs – upstairs you’ll be surprised at just how cosy and welcoming the restaurant is. It is tiny though – so come early if you’re after breakfast!

Forte Kitchen is run by Naomi and Olly, and their intention was to create a cosy, relaxed restaurant where guests can feel at home and enjoy proper rustic British food. I’d say they’ve done a pretty good job at achieving this with their simple but tempting menu, great selection of drinks and quaint, but not cramped seating area.

On the menu you’ll find a range of breakfast classics, with a few healthier alternatives (if you’re so inclined) – and of course, pancakes for those with a sweeter tooth.
We started off with cappuccinos, freshly squeezed orange juice and tea. Perfect after our rather wet walk over!

I opted for smoked salmon & scrambled eggs on sourdough, as did Tom – and it was an excellent choice. There was a generous helping of smoked salmon on freshly baked sourdough – a delightful way to start the day.
We went with our friends Bex (find her blog here) and Henry for breakfast before a day out in Winchester. Bex chose Eggs Benedict and Henry opted for bacon & maple syrup pancakes. Delicious!

If you’re planning on heading to Forte Kitchen for breakfast, I’d recommend arriving when they open their doors at 9am (on the weekend) as the restaurant fills up very quickly, and they don’t take bookings for breakfast. Grab your companion and make a day of it in Winchester – there’s lots of great places to explore and things to do!
Forte Kitchen have fairly simple breakfast options, all of which are executed perfectly. An ideal way to start your day in Winchester.
If you do visit, let me know what you ordered! Everything looked so delicious.
