Eating breakfast out is one of my favourite things to do on the weekends, and Hampshire happens to be home to several excellent independent spots for breakfast. I’ve compiled a selection of my favourite spots for breakfasts in Hampshire, from traditional full english breakfasts to stacks of pancakes with fried chicken.
I’ll be updating this guide to the best breakfasts in Hampshire as I discover new ones – and if you have a recommendation for an excellent breakfast spot, leave me a comment so that I can check it out!
THE BEST SPOTS FOR BREAKFASTS IN HAMPSHIRE
1. Josie’s (Bishops Waltham, Winchester & Petersfield)
2. Southsea Beach Cafe, Portsmouth
3. Becketts Southsea, Portsmouth
4. Boat House Cafe, Chichester
5. Forte Kitchen, Winchester
JOSIE’S (BISHOPS WALTHAM, WINCHESTER & PETERSFIELD)

You may have noticed Josie’s in my Hampshire Food Guide for Fried Chicken – and here they are again! Josie’s has become one of my favourite go-to spots in Hampshire for breakfast, brunch or lunch this year – and for good reason! One of those reasons is – you can have fried chicken with breakfast. Surely that’s the dream?
They’ve got branches in Bishops Waltham, Winchester and Petersfield (with another opening soon in Romsey), so there should be one to suit your whereabouts.
My top picks: Buttermilk Fried Chicken Pancakes, Breakfast Taco with Fried Chicken.

SOUTHSEA BEACH CAFE, PORTSMOUTH

If ever there was a restaurant most deserving of a place on this Hampshire Food Guide – it’s Southsea Beach Cafe. Loved by Portsmouth locals and always incredibly busy, their scallop & bacon bap is one of the tastiest things I’ve ever had – period – and their spot on Southsea Beach has unrivalled views over the Solent.
With a conservatory that’s perfect in summer and winter, a log burner, excellent sea views and delicious food, Southsea Beach Cafe is somewhere I’d recommend to anyone looking to have a really good breakfast out – and the owners are lovely too! Just make sure you arrive before 9am to guarantee a table for breakfast, or you might find yourself waiting a while.
My top picks: Scallop & Bacon Bap, Poached Eggs on Toast with Smoked Salmon, Full English

BECKETTS SOUTHSEA, PORTSMOUTH

Another excellent independent in Portsmouth, Becketts Southsea is flawless when it comes to the decor inside their restaurant – and their breakfast offerings are just as excellent as the decor. With plenty of options, including vegan dishes, their breakfast menu puts a twist on classics and includes excellent coffee.
My top picks: Smoked Salmon Stack

BOAT HOUSE CAFE, CHICHESTER

We’ve been regulars at The Boat House Cafe in Chichester for several years, and it’s one of our favourite spots to visit for breakfast. Being located at Chichester Marina gives The Boat House Cafe excellent views over the marina and Chichester Harbour, and the nautical decor and good breakfasts keeps us coming back for more.
Now, I know that Chichester isn’t in Hampshire – it’s actually just in West Sussex – but as it’s one of my favourite spots, I felt I had to add it into this guide! Technically, The Boat House Cafe does fit into this Hampshire Food Guide as there’s another branch at Swanwick Marina, on the river Hamble and just outside of Southampton. So, depending on where you’re based, you can visit either the Swanwick or Chichester branches – both are just as good as each other!
My top picks: Huevos Rancheros, Smashed Avocado & Lime on Toasted Rye
Price: £

FORTE KITCHEN, WINCHESTER

Forte Kitchen in Winchester is a great spot to visit for a cosy breakfast – and it really is cosy! Tucked away down a side street, you’ll find the restaurant upstairs with just a few tables. Serving breakfast classics like bacon pancakes, eggs benedict and smoked salmon & scrambled eggs on toast, Forte Kitchen keeps things simple and delivers all of their dishes well.
My top picks: Smoked Salmon & Scrambled Eggs, Bacon Pancakes
Price: £
